“Our Commitment to Construction Logistics and Community Safety (CLOCS) “.
Managing work-related risk for vulnerable road users.
Provectus is a key player in the Remediation Sector and has a duty of care to vulnerable road users when managing work-related risks on its sites. Whilst awareness of road safety has improved recently due to the introduction of highly influential initiatives including FORS and CLOCS, the injury and fatality rate on the roads still remains high.
In London, there were twice as many pedestrians and motorcyclists killed in collisions involving vehicles over 3.5 tonnes over the same period. Analysis of the cycling figures found that a disproportionate number of the vehicles involved were construction related.
The CLOCS Standard for construction logistics: ‘Managing work-related road risk’ has been developed as a common national standard for use by the construction logistics industry. Implemented by construction clients through contracts, it provides a framework that enables ownership in managing road risk which can be adhered to in a consistent way by fleet operators.
The CLOCS Standard is not necessarily a legal requirement but many companies will include CLOCS as a common best practice standard within their project contracts and policies. Local authorities are increasingly incorporating CLOCS as a planning obligation and therefore CLOCS is likely to become standard practice for construction sites in the UK
It is clear to see that vulnerable road users are at high risk on our roads and specifically vulnerable to construction traffic such as HGVs in urban areas. The industry must increase its efforts towards improving road safety and reducing these figures.
Provectus are committed in reducing work-related accidents and have activity adopted the CLOCS ethos as part of it’s standard procedures and systems, all employees from procurement to site management have completed their CLOCS training. By adopting the CLOCS ethos Provectus aim to further reduce the risks both actively on site as part of it’s site traffic management plans and during the procurement process. All our preferred suppliers where applicable are FORS accredited and going forward we will seek that they also fall within the scope of the CLOCS standard.
