Self Storage Site- Ground and Water Remediation
Safestore commissioned Provectus to undertake an assessment of groundwater and subsequently remediation at the former Goliath works.
Safestore developed the self-store storage facility at the former Goliath Works, Birmingham, during 2016. The development comprised predominantly hard cover to the site with the building structure and hardstanding, with some limited landscaping.
Groundwater impacts from cutting oils had been identified at the site. Safestore commissioned Provectus to undertake an assessment of groundwater and subsequently remediation at the former Goliath works.
The objective was to implement remediation that provided a suitable risk reduction to human health and Controlled Waters for the predominantly hard surface self-storage facility, to the satisfaction of Birmingham City Council and the Environment Agency.
- Product recovery wells installed whilst construction was underway
- 6 month period to reduce groundwater impact
- Remedial works were conducted using below ground well heads and ductwork such that clean-up operations continued whilst the site was open and trading
The project was successfully completed on time and budget, with zero health & safety incidents.
